PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian services were first held in Chesapeake City,
on or about April 27, 1857 in the Academy. A regularly constituted Church,
consisting of eight members and styled the "First Presbyterian Church of
Chesapeake City" was organized by a committee of the Presbytery of Wilmington
(now called New Castle Presbytery) on Sunday, November 1, 1857. The Presbyterian
Church occupies a lot of ground given for the purpose by Robert Polk, Esquire.
It was erected and furnished at an expense of about $2,500 and was dedicated to
the service of God on Sunday, January 8, 1860. The church was enlarged during
the 1950's.
